Moon Jewelry
The Symbolism of Moon Jewelry

The night star has long attracted the attention of people, being in their understanding something more than just a celestial body. No matter what culture we are talking about, the moon has always occupied a special place in mythology – it was worshiped like a special deity. The worship of the night star was reflected in art, including jewelry – its image was embodied in pendants, necklaces and other jewelry, which were initially perceived and used as magical talismans.

The significance of the moon in the ancient worldview, and therefore in art, had three aspects:

  • the feminine principle associated with a 28-day cycle;
  • the account of time, which people have been keeping according to the lunar phases since ancient times;
    the mysterious, night side of the universe.

The embodiment of the first aspect, as a rule, were crescent-shaped pendants - the so-called moonstones. They were dedicated to the goddess of the Moon, who in many mythological traditions personified motherhood, was considered an assistant during childbirth. Often the crescent was combined in sacred amulets with another equally significant symbol – a star. Crescent-shaped jewelry has retained its charm for centuries – for example, in Victorian England, it came into fashion with the light hand of Princess Alexandra, and it's still popular today.

The connection of the moon with time is embodied in the image of the lunar phases. Usually, jewelry combines three main phases – the growing moon, the full moon, and the waning moon. This embodies the idea of eternity, the permanence of being, where everything repeats itself, going back to square one.

The moon is associated with night and something mysterious. This side of the look is often emphasized by special precious or semi-precious stones. First of all, it is a moonstone, the name of which speaks for itself. Rose quartz is also associated with it. The light, delicate shades of these stones remind of the mysterious radiance of the night star.

Silver

The traditional material for moon jewelry is silver. If gold is associated with the sun, silver has long been associated with the moon. On Bali, there is a special attitude towards it. It happened that silver on this island is relatively affordable, and it has become the specialty of local jewelers. There are a lot of craftsmen there, and each of them has its own special style, because we are talking about handmade jewelry. They are made of an alloy of copper and 925 silver. This means that the precious metal content in the alloy is 92.5%.

Balinese jewelry is original, each of the pieces is a genuine work of art. Its appearance is striking in its diversity:

  • antique products;
  • cult symbols, both Buddhis and Christian;
  • authentic ethnic jewelry.

With such a wealth of choice, everyone can find what is right for them. Every tourist traveling to Bali strives to bring silverware from there. Today, such jewelry can be purchased in Russia by ordering them from the Island Soul online shop.

Rings

For example, the Moon ring looks very elegant, white mother-of-pearl gives it a kind of muted shine, creating the impression of a mysterious moonlight. A moon-shaped citrine ring looks no less exquisite. This stone is associated with gaining wisdom and harmony. It was believed that it absorbs solar energy – thus, this jewelry organically combines the symbols of two luminaries, night and day, symbolizing balance and harmony in the universe and human life. An original addition is a pendant with the brand's logo – you can really be proud of such jewelry.

A very original piece of jewelry is a ring with the moon phases, on its inner surface there is an inscription "Moon cycle", and on the outside, there is a sequential image of the lunar phases. This cycle, consisting of 28 days, is naturally associated with feminine nature, and such a ring will be a wonderful gift for any lady. The same symbolism is embodied in the Moon Cycle ring with white topaz, associated with female intuition.

Pendants

The moon theme is represented in the catalog with pendants. For example, the laconic Moon pendant, in the form of a growing crescent, looks very modest but elegant. It will successfully complement the congo earrings, it can be attached to a carbine.

The gilded pendant on the New Moon carbine looks very impressive. Three lunar phases are depicted on its front side:

  • the growing moon;
  • the full moon;
  • the waning moon.

The reverse side is decorated with the inscription Śri lalita sahasranama stotram – this is a sacred text of Hinduism, which is dedicated to the goddess Lalita – the Mother of all mothers, the goddess of the full moon, personifying the path to salvation and the female empowerment. The Moon cycle citrine earring pendant also combines three lunar phases, with citrine, associated with sunlight, placed in the center – in the phase of the full moon. In the pendant on the Moon Energy earring, the crescent symbol is combined with a small, elegant insert on the second chain. The image of the night luminary is embodied not only in the form of jewelry – a pendant with a round moonstone is associated with the full moon, attributed to strong energy.

Earrings

Moon-style earrings are also amazing, for example, Moon stud earrings with a star and topaz. In this jewelry, the actual lunar symbol – the crescent – is combined with the image of a star, thereby creating an idea of the starry sky in all its splendor. This impression is complemented by the radiance of topaz.

Moon Lotus pendant earrings combine two ancient symbols. Their shape reproduces a crescent, and the patterned ornament inscribed in it consists of lotus petals. In Buddhism, this flower is considered a symbol of spiritual growth, the desire of the soul to achieve perfection. Another aspect of the symbolism of the lotus is the harmony of the past, present and future, which is also associated with the moon, because the lunar phases have long been used to count time.

Hoop earrings with a crescent in gilding have a special symbolism. A hoop, a closed circle, symbolizes infinity and eternity. The crescent inscribed in it is decorated with gilding, which is associated with sunlight. Thus, this jewelry harmoniously combines the images of two luminaries – day and night, which can also be perceived as a symbol of endless time.

Other Original Products

A very original moon jewelry is the Moon cycle body chain, consisting of symbols of several phases of the moon. In the center of the composition is a black spinel stone, the deep black shade of which perfectly sets off the light shine of silver, while emphasizing the nocturnal nature of the moon.

Among the beautiful things presented in the Island Soul catalog, not only jewelry reminds of the moon. For example, a wonderful piece of furniture will be a Crescent white dish, with the appropriate shape. A wonderful object for meditation or just an interior decoration will be the Moonstone – rose quartz, in the shape of a crescent.
